I actually jogged for 4.1 miles and then walked .9 miles along the Provo River trail. My longest continous run in my life. It was painful and slow but I did it.

Wow!!! 4.1 is a long way for your first wog!! Never heard that term before but I like it...I like it alot...sorry for the pressure. I felt that way about the blog at first too. I kind of resented it and didn't want to HAVE to blog my workouts..especially since I was still getting in shape after Jacob. But now there are so many different people on here it's fun. There are super fast guys like our very disgustingly skinny husbands and there are people on every level you can imagine. And when you get comments and get to know people I like blogging for the social aspect that we girls love. Anyway, hopefully it won't be a chore for you...I know you don't need anymore of those. Good to have you on the blog....I think you'll love it.

By the way...good as place as any to tell you that Benjamin wants to have an end of summer water gun fight with a few friends. Is Jared busy August 17th...we'll probably have it in the afternoon...it will be pretty casual just let the boys run around in the backyard and maybe give them some smoothies or something. give me a call

Great Job! When I first started running, I didn't even call it wogging. I'd tell my hubby that I was going for a "go". Whether I walked or jogged, I was going to get out that door and move myself somewhere. I'm glad you joined the blog!

From Michelle on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 02:26:14

Great jog! That is great run!

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 16:06:35

Welcome to the blog. I would recommend that you start timing your runs, including the walking part. This will give you a mental reason to keep running, as well as provide something tangible to keep track of your progress.

From ebeth on Tue, Aug 14, 2007 at 23:25:35

Sarah, Jared would love to go to benjamin's water fight on friday. I will call you before then.

I wogged 4 miles up in provo canyon.  I took Jordan in the stroller with me. pushing an extra fifty pounds in front of me up hill wasn't easy.  Down hill it was a breeze.  Starting next week I get to bring him along most of the time.  Yipee!!!

2 miles in the morning walking Jared to school.  It seemed a lot easier pushing the stroller up our hill than last school year but it is still not fun.

2 miles jogging .  did the first mile with jared in about 10:30 minutes but it just about killed me.  Once again I wonder why I am doing this to myself.  I did the 2nd mile in 12:10.  Ted thinks I can do a 5k next month in under 36 minutes but I am not so sure I can sustain the pace yet.

walked to and from school in the morning then jogged a mile with Jared in the afternoon.  After that I jogged all out as fast as I could go at the awe inspiring pace(ha, ha) of 10:08.

From Lybi on Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 01:55:20

I think 10 min. pace is great! 10 min. pace is where the people who are jogging "just for fitness" stop and the people who are going for speed begin. If you ever get a chance to run on a really crowded path, you will pass all sorts of people going 10 min. pace. Not our super-athletic husbands, of course, but other more average human beings, yes.

From sarah on Fri, Aug 24, 2007 at 23:39:40

I'm with Lybi...10 minute pace is a very respectable time for a woman...I'm impressed....good work.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 19:11:31

For a confidence builder, go to the Provo River Trail, find four triangles (Ted can explain in detail how those work), and try an all out mile, see by how much you can break 10:00, and try not to have any 200s slower than 1:15. Have James or Ted pace you. If you succeed, this would leave Jessica and Jordan in the minority - you will have 3 sub-10:00 milers in the family vs 2 who have not done it. Jordan will not be there long, and hopefully Jessica will catch the bug too.

Sounds nice..Ted said you are running a 5K on Labor Day in Payson. I'd love to run with you if you'd like the company. I've just barely worked up to run faster than those good ol 12 minute miles...In other words...I'm very familiar with that pace and could help you know what pace to go. Think about it..maybe you'd just like Ted to run with you but I usually yell at Sasha during races so that might now be a good thing. We could just talk and have a good time.

From ebeth on Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 23:47:23

Ran a practice 5k to start out today.  Thank you sarah for watching Jordan and making this possible.  I ran a 36:36.  The first mile was only a 12:27 because I am really slow til I get a little warmed up. the next  mile was 11:39 and the 3rd was 11:35. then I sprinted(for me) the last .1 in 55 seconds.  I walked/jogged the rest after i caught my breath.  Sarah said I don't need to run the race on monday because I already met my goal.  My crazy husband says I should run a sub 35.  ( as I said CRAZY)

From Sasha Pachev on Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 00:02:56

I think you can run a low 34 in a competitive situation, especially given your splits in the training run.

From ebeth on Thu, Aug 30, 2007 at 23:28:36

thanks for saying so but then again you are the crazy person my crazy husband trains with. I'll give it my best shot but I do not like having too high expectations or I come down really hard on myself if I do not reach them.

From sarah on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 16:53:57

Yes...they are both crazy...before I read Sasha said I thought he would say something like what Ted said. They may be crazy but you should believe them. I'd love to run the race with you and help you meet your goal...you may even go faster than Ted or Sasha are saying just because you'll start out fast and everyone will be racing around you. I always try and start out at a brisk pace that I think feels faster than what I train at but something I can hold for the whole race. I am really not into killing myself in a race or any type of situation because I know I'll be paying for it while I'm trying to mother my children. We'll see what you are capable of and I think you will be pleasantly surprised...not to mention the fact that you go much longer than 3 on average so it is a short distance. I'll see you on Monday.

Yes I said 8 miles.  I do not know what on earth possed me to wog 8 miles, with a stroller, ending with a mile straight up the hill to my house.  Averaged just under 15 minute miles but I am paying for it now.  My legs feel fine and I knew I would be tired but I never knew that my back could feel so sore and still retain the ability to walk.  Stupid aren't I?  I should have given myself a couple more weeks pushing the stroller on average walks before trying anything so ambitious.  I am ever so grateful for painkillers!!

Wow! Don't feel stupid. When you do eight again in a few weeks, it will feel easier because you will already know you can do it. Way to push yourself. Enjoy how short your workout will feel today!

From sarah on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 17:14:12

8 miles is great! I'm impressed with you tenacity for training. I think you are doing awesome...As far as our crazy husbands go I guess when you run as much as they do you kind of do start thinking a bit crazy and wanting to convert everyone to the cause but at least it keeps them out of trouble and we love em...what can we say? I do feel lucky to have a husband dedicated to my health but I've found that I have to make sure that I don't do things that I'll resent later because then I'll get mad at him about it.

From laura on Fri, Aug 31, 2007 at 21:25:14

8 miles!!! Way to go!!! Yes, I too believe in pain killers. Best invention ever - for overzealous workouts and childbirth. ;o) I over did it on my very first workout. It had been 7-8 months since I had done ANYTHING because I didn't feel good my last trimester and then I had a newborn and no sleep. So, on my first day out I went 4 miles. It felt good while I was walking, but it hurt for days after. Ugh. Just know you're in good company!!!! Wow, I checked out your husband's blog. He's quite the runner. You and Sarah must find a LOT in common. :o)

Sarah paced me and I obviously did a lot better than I thought I could. ran 10:05 for the first mile slowed down on the 2nd mile and picked it up for the 3rd.  the only down side is I have to set a much higher standered for the next race.  I have been suffering from a headache today so I have been drinking gatorade. Vile stuff.  my husband suggested I drink pickle juice, then I won't think sports drinks are so vile.  I deciced to pass on his suggestion.  Thanks a lot sarah for pacing me but not pushing me.  It was a good experience.

The only difference is, you're back out there running, and I had to have my husband fetch things for me because my hip felt so bad. You're awesome!!! I was having one of those days.  You know, the why do I bother and do I really care if I work out days.  I forced myself to do a recovery walk on the trail.  I might have gone further on my stroll but I was not highly motivated and I really needed to go wee.  There are no bathrooms on that part of the trail and I am not the kind of girl who crawls through the brush to find a secluded spot.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 20:24:23

Elizabeth: As I told you, your form looked really good. I think you have some potential in running, I would not be surprised to see you run 23:00 5 K in a year or two. Some things will have to change and improve, but they usually and naturally do if you persist. You can ask Sarah - I do not give empty compliments, I state good things when I see them. And I do have an eye for discerning running talent. I saw Nick Miller in the fall of 2005 in Boulder, and my eye told me he could be good enough to run for college if he trained right. Back then he was a recreational runner. Now he made the CU team, the fastest college team in the nation. For some inspiration, and reasons to run, read this - Paul had some very good thoughts.

I have discovered a distessing tendency for my to want to skip exercise if I have something the prevents me from going right after the kids leave for school. Today I made myself go for a walk in the early evening in the hills. Brisk walk pace but after a while I at least started to enjoy myself.

Here Ted I am catching up on my blog are you happy now?  I went to the school and up tempview and down canyon road.  mostly walking.

On the eliptical.  Jordan did not want to go for a walk today and I did not feel like forcing him.  Had a good workout.  Worked up a real sweat.  Eliptical is not as easy as I thought it would be.  I work hard for slower miles.

5 mile jogging in just under an hour.  Did at least 1 10:15 mile.  Never felt relaxed forced myself the whole way.  3 mile hike to and from temp caves.  Had Jordan on my back about half the way down.  killer on the knees.

3 miles slow jog on my own and 1 mile with sarah.  sore from yesterdays hike but it is a good kind of sore.

hiked up rock canyon.  Beautiful this time of year.  Slow going over rough terrain but I am glad I did it.  2.25 miles up is the furthest I have ever been up there.

I think it's neat that you are a wogger. If I had done more exercising I'd be a smaller size today. Am proud of you for all that you are. Running doesn't make you a better person, just a healthier one. Mom

Ugh! I don't think I'm going hiking again for about 10 years...I don't think I'm a hiker...you are awesome.

4.3 as a fast walk.  Stroller tire was pretty flat so I didn't run.  in the afternoon I warmed up a little and then ran flat out for a mile with ted and the boys.  Started out too fast so I got a cramp the last 1/4 mile but managed to do a 8:54 mile. about 45 seconds faster than any I have done before.  I am glad I don't run all out like that often it's a killer.

An easy wog from the kids school.  Normaly a 6 mile loop but ended early because of an approaching storm.  averaged between 13:20 and 14:30 a mile.  I know that I can go faste some times but only for a while.  My husband says that with the fast mile I put in yesterday I have to say I am a runner but I don't think I am there yet.  I think maybe I can call myself a fast, slow person.

I'm a fast, slow person, but I still call myself a runner. I figure if I run more than I walk, then it counts as running (I barely did today).

Not very motivated today.  went on the eliptical for an hour.  I acctually like the eliptical every once in a while I just wouldn't want to do it every day.

not much to say.  Just a run of the mill at least I am out here work out.  My right foot hurt because I jammed a toe it the joint yesterday.  (I have done this before, I am a genius when it comes to navigating furniture in the dark.)  down hill hurt the worst.  took it easy to avoid hurting it more. will take tommorow off to give it a chance to heal.

The big loop from the school.  Jogged just a litttle.  Last week I think I over did it. I don't have a lot of running energy and my shins are once again killing me.  Oh the joys of getting into shape.

Time to update the blog!

I will try to write on the blog all week if for no other reason than to keep my husband frim nagging me to do it.   I have not been a very motivated exerciser lately.  Between school and the cold it's hard to do it in the morning and I tell myself I will run later and then other things come up.  I ran on the track today in about 46 minutes including 1 mile in about 9:30.

Again on the eliptical. Ted says it's a bad happit and I need to not give up running but I figure it's better than nothing. I'll get outside to run a few times a week.( I hope)

I'm glad you posted something. I've seen too much of your boys and not enough of you...Benjamin has of course been overjoyed to see Jared extra. You should have seen them last night. Jared strutted up dramatically and they embraced in a cute hug like they hadn't seen eachother for two years...very cute.

It's good Armyrunner and Fast Running Mommy convinced you to join the blog! It really is quite addicting, as is the crazy sport of running! Keep on sharing!

From Stacy on Tue, Nov 27, 2007 at 20:19:21

I hate to agree with Ted, but I have noticed that I've gotten lazy with my running since I started doing a lot of elliptical (I was having knee pain, so I wanted to stay fit even though I couldn't run). It is better than nothing, but if you want to meet your running goals, you need to do at least some running. Or, at least, that's what I've figured out about myself in the last few weeks.

Ted is killing me...the elf dance was way too funny. Tell him we got a big kick out of it. Sasha is fun to make fun of...I know...the best part is that he laughs right along with you. Thanks for your friendship, it means a lot to us.

We need some more posts! It's hard but critical to get out there during the holiday season. Hope you are finding some time for yourself - for working out, especially. Running is ideal but post what you do!
